You work with a lot of files in your daily life – documents, presentations, images – the list goes on and on. Many times these files are spread out across multiple devices. Some might be on a desktop computer, others on one or multiple laptops, and a few might even be on a tablet and smart phone. If you’ve ever wished there were a way to get to all of your files no matter what device you are using, then Box at Penn State is for you!
Box is a secure, cloud-based, file storage, sharing, and collaboration service that is now FREE for all Penn State faculty, staff, and students. To log in to the service, simply go to the Box at Penn State homepage. When you click login you’ll be asked to enter your Penn State Access Account ID and password, and then you’ll be on your way. You can upload files or folders from whatever device you’re working on, share files with others, and be sure that your information is secure the entire time. And if those weren’t enough good reasons to love Box, you also get 50 GB of space all to yourself!
So how can you use Box? Students, this is a great way to work with your group members on a team project or assignment or make sure that you can access files on computer lab computers and your laptop without having to worry about losing a flash drive. Faculty, you can create folders for your different classes and assign tasks to your students directly within a specific document. View what your students are working on in one easy place and turn your drop-box into a place of peer review. Staff, suddenly working with colleagues in different units or locations is a lot easier. Is a document to big to email back and forth? Box is the perfect solution.
If you want to know more about navigating the Box interface or utilizing its many cool features, we’ve worked to make sure that you are well supported. Training Services is now offering training to teach you how to make the most out of Box – not only how to access your files, but how to also collaborate on projects with teams and use the features Box provides for sharing, commenting, and task assignment.
