The eLearning service Microsoft IT Academy, also know as Microsoft Imagine Academy, has begun a phasing-out process leading to a permanent shutdown of the service in June.
Microsoft IT Academy was offered as part of the University’s current Microsoft Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES) agreement, which is set to expire in June. For the new agreement, Penn State IT conducted an eighteen-month investigation, consulting Penn State colleges and campuses as well as tech experts from outside the University. During this evaluation, Penn State IT determined that Microsoft IT Academy’s usage was too low to justify the cost of maintaining the Microsoft IT Academy contract and associated support.
How will it impact me?
After the service retires, Penn State users will no longer be able to access any Microsoft IT Academy course and the free certification voucher for faculty will no longer be available. If you built an Microsoft IT Academy video into your course, you will need to remove it and link to an alternative.
It is recommended that users finish any Microsoft IT Academy courses they started as soon as possible. After the service retires, the login website will remain open with a service retirement notice until Friday, August 18, after which the website will redirect to the Penn State login for Lynda.com.
Additional notifications and reminders will be announced via the Training Services website, social media channels, and the Training Services Newsletter.
